Welcome to the course on Energy and Climate! In this session, we will explore the various sources of energy, their impact on the environment, and the current climate crisis. We will delve into the details of carbon emissions and carbon bonds and understand the impact of carbon offsetting. We will also study the latest advancements in renewable energy and explore the potential of hydrogen as a future energy vector. The course will begin with an overview of the current energy scenario worldwide and its impact on the environment. We will study the different sources of energy, including fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas, and renewable sources such as solar, wind, hydropower, and geothermal. We will examine the advantages and disadvantages of each source of energy and their impact on the environment, including the emission of greenhouse gases and their contribution to climate change. Next, we will understand the concept of carbon bonds and explore the role of carbon offsetting in reducing carbon emissions. We will also study the various initiatives and policies that have been implemented worldwide to mitigate the impact of carbon emissions on the environment. In the later part of the course, we will explore the latest advancements in renewable energy, energy storage, fuel cells, synthetic fuels, SAFs, and their potential to replace fossil fuels. We will study the latest trends in different sustainable energy technologies and understand their advantages and limitations. By the end of this course, you will have a general understanding of the Energy and Climate scenario, the energy trilemma, the impact of different sources of energy on the environment, and the potential of future energy sources. You will also be aware of the latest policies and initiatives worldwide to mitigate the impact of climate change and reduce carbon emissions. We will close with an open Q&A session to allow participants get the most of our experts.
